Uniform swap to help out Redditch families

Redditch Editorial 4th Dec, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

UNWANTED school uniforms can once again be swapped to help struggling families in the borough as part of a scheme initiated by county and borough councillor Joe Baker.

Redditch Labour Party will be opening the doors at the Former County Court Building just in time for Christmas for the second Uniform Clothes Bank – an opportunity for all needy families, regardless of background, to find school uniforms for their children free of charge.

Coun Baker set up the project to enable less fortunate Redditch children to have uniforms and PE kits which other children no longer needed or had grown out of.

He said: “I believe that every child should not feel different when at school just because of how they look and dress – in this current economic climate many families were struggling with day to day basics, so helping to provide uniforms for children would help lift that burden.”

Coun Baker is once again appealing to residents across the town to help with the event by donating any unwanted uniforms, jackets and shoes.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can call 07891 549333 and a member of the team can collect them, or items can be dropped off at Annaliz Vintage on Church Road – which will host the event scheduled for December 19 from 10am.
