A MAIN road in the centre of Alcester is now open again after being closed to motorists following a gas leak.
Evesham Street was shut on January 14 following the leak which forced 14 residents to evacuate their homes.
Two leaks were swiftly identified and repaired by Cadent the following day but the road at the junction of Globe Island had remained closed for seven days whilst repairs to the road surface and pavement were carried out.
As a precaution whilst the gas leak was being investigated residents in Evesham Street were instructed by the fire service not to return to their properties for two nights.
The closure had impacted the flow of traffic through the town causing chaos in nearby Bleachfield Street which had seen buses and lorries navigating the narrow residential road.
One resident who commented on Facebook, Emma Martyniuk said: “I work from home overlooking Bleachfield Street and the amount of inconsiderate drivers, verbal abuse, swearing, speeding, bad driving I have witnessed over the last few days is shocking.”
