POLICE are investigating an incident in Redditch town centre which led to a man falling from the roof of Threadneedle House on Alcester Street.

The man, who was in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but they are now not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident happened around 2pm and enquiries are being carried out to establish what happened beforehand but initial enquiries suggest there was an altercation between a group of people on the roof shortly before the man fell.

Searches are ongoing to locate two men who are believed to have been on the roof at the time of the incident.

Det Ch Insp Gareth Lougher said: “I would like to speak to the two men who were on the roof at the time of the incident as they will be able to help with our enquiries and, again, I would ask these men, or anyone who knows who they are, to get in contact with me.”

He said yesterday: “There is an increased police presence in Redditch as we carry out our enquiries and I know some people may be concerned.”

He also addressed rumours about shots being fired in the area.

“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public however understand there has been speculation a firearm was discharged.

“We have established this has not been the case and a firearm has not been discharged.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation as we deal with the incident and carry out searches of the area.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham with a doctor and critical care paramedic on board, were sent to the scene.”

The man received advanced trauma care at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The nearby Redditch Town Hall was closed and people were urged to avoid the area.
