A GROUP of travellers who set up an illegal encampment at the Abbey Stadium have departed after Redditch Police served them with notice to leave.
Officers told the group if they had not cleared by 6pm yesterday evening, they would be served with a Section 60C order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. It meant they must go by today or face being removed.
Insp Richard Field from Redditch Police Safer Neighbourhood Team confirmed to the Standard they left earlier today when they received the document.
Yesterday he said patrols had been stepped up in response to concerns from the community.
He added his officers had worked with Redditch Borough Council to start proceedings to get them moved on.
And he said he understood the impact the group had had on the community.
