Updates on the Garden Suite- Redditch MP Rachel Maclean's Westminster Diary

Redditch Editorial 23rd Oct, 2022   0

DESPITE events in Westminster and the stories dominating the national media, as your MP I’m getting on with my job and working hard to deliver on the promises I made to you.

From health bosses investigating my proposal to return the Garden Suite to a temporary facility at the Alex until its permanent home becomes available, to there being more police on our streets than when I was first elected, I’m laser focused on the job you elected me to do.

And despite the challenges we face, my favourite days are being back in the constituency, a place I’m proud to call home, visiting schools and working on issues to improve the lives of my constituents.

Last Friday I had the pleasure of visiting Church Hill Middle School. I was shown around by two fantastic pupils who clearly love their school and who were proud to show it off. It was great to hear their experience first-hand and to see some of the fantastic work they are doing.

I’ve consistently voted for more funding for our schools, and Church Hill Middle School has benefited from the £7.1billion increase in the core schools budget this year.

Every child in Redditch, no matter their background, should have access to a first class education, and this funding increase will ensure young people in our town are given the chance to fulfill their potential.

Later that day I joined police officers and local councillors in Astwood Bank on a speed enforcement exercise along Evesham Road. I know the road well and I know how busy it can be.

I joined officers after a constituent contacted me about her concerns regarding speeding along that road and I wanted to see for myself just how bad this issue is.

I’d like to thank our hardworking officers for letting me spend time with them during one of their regular speed enforcement exercises.

I know residents in Astwood Bank remain concerned about this issue and I will continue to work with the police and my council colleagues to ensure everyone feels safe.
