A VETERAN of the Falklands War helped launch an event near Alcester aimed at promoting the communications industry to servicemen and women leaving the Armed Forces.

Simon Weston OBE, who has inspired millions of people with his courage and charity work, was the keynote speaker at the event hosted by Sambourne based company Ubi-tech at Ragley Hall last Thursday (March 5).

More than 100 armed service personnel heard from the 53-year-old who suffered 46 per cent burns after the ship he was on was bombed during the conflict with Argentina and left his face barely recognisable.

There were also presentations on key issues such as 5G, telecoms security, wireless innovation and training, as well as the chance to network with companies including the BBC and BT about opportunities available.

Details of training courses offered by Ubi-tech, a preferred supplier to the Ministry of Defence Career Transition Partnership, were also on offer.
