It's all down to the Redditch cheer! Mayor claims victory after cup clash

IT’S all down to Redditch…that’s the verdict of borough Mayor Juliet Brunner after she sent her good luck video to the England team prior to their World Cup clash with Colombia.

So far it has received nearly 49,000 views – and rising.

“I claim the victory over Columbia was purely down to the tremendous cheer produced by Redditch!” she said.

Councillor Juliet Brunner, equipped with two pink footballs, visited numerous groups and organisations over the weekend as part of her role as Mayor, and filmed them showing their support for Team England.

The shots were then stitched together to make a fantastic patriotic video ahead of the big match.

The video includes community groups and individuals including Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue, Kingfisher Shopping Centre, St Stephen’s Church, the team from the Redditch Standard, Redditch Police, market traders, members of the 37th Signals Regiment, local cadets and the Royal British Legion.

The Mayor said: “It is not often we get happy occasions to unite us as a country and there have been all too many sad ones in recent times.

“The World Cup is a unique opportunity to come together as a country and show some patriotism.

“The video is just a bit of fun but the response has been fantastic. Let’s hope the boys do us proud tonight!”

And to mark the occasion Coun Brunner has also hoisted the flag of St George at the Town Hall.

She added: “Thank you to everyone who helped make this video possible on such a short timescale, another act of team work and community spirit. Come on England!”
