IT was the UK’s biggest box office movie of 1978, grossing £14.7million while sales of the film’s soundtrack album reached almost 30 million, and defined an era in pop music.

Today, Redditch’s independent record shop, Vintage Trax will be celebrating 40 years since the release of ‘Grease’, and recalling the film’s top tunes including ‘You’re the one That I Want’, ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘Greased Lightning’ and of course the title track, ‘Grease’.

The film depicts the lives of two high school seniors: a bad boy (played by John Travolta) and a good girl (played by Olivia Newton-John) in the late 1950s. As they said: “Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion. Grease is the way we are feeling.”

Ros Sidaway of Vintage Trax said: “We will be pulling out the stops to rekindle the atmosphere of the time, and generally have a fun day for all.”

Fans and customers are invited to enter the ‘Grease’ themed fancy-dress competition with great prizes to be won, and will be music from the 1950s rock n’ roll/doo wop era, hot dogs, popcorn, and soft drinks available.

The event takes place at the shop on Birchfield Road, Headless Cross from 11am to 4pm and with the weather looking good for Saturday people can even bring a picnic and take some time out in the park next to the shop.
