Volunteer sessions at Redditch’s ancient monument site set to begin

Redditch Editorial 5th Sep, 2020   0

VOLUNTEER sessions at Redditch’s ancient monument site at Moons Moat are set to begin as the lockdown eases.

The monthly sessions, funded by grants from Redditch Borough Council and Worcestershire County Council councilors, aim to get our supporters involved with ongoing maintenance and improvement tasks at the Moat.

Activities will include clearing and restoring footpaths, planting young trees, maintaining the ranch fencing, clearing scrub and non-native shrub growth and planting spring bulbs – to name a few.

There are also plans to build and site bird and bat boxes and encourage the growth of natural flora like bluebells and sowing a wild flower meadow.

“These activities will be both on the site of the Moat itself and will develop access and support to natural habitats in the conservation area to the east of the Moat and brook,” said Derek Coombes, chair of Moons Moat community group.

“We anticipate the programme will entail voluntary activity for a team which will not exceed ten volunteers, for one day – or half-day – each month.

“We have an experienced leader for this programme which will be conducted in close liaison with officers from the borough council although times and dates are yet to be agreed.
