‘Volunteers are the beating heart of the community’ - Christmas message from the Mayor of Alcester

Redditch Editorial 23rd Dec, 2024   0

It is that special time of the year where we celebrate all that the festive season means to us and spend precious time with our friends and loved ones.

It is also a time where we reflect on the year that has been and set our sights on new goals and ambitions for the one that lies ahead.

When I reflect on my time so far as Mayor of Alcester (unbelievably halfway through already!), the highlight has to be the numerous and varied events Sue (my wife and consort) and I have attended.

Whether it has been a formal civic engagement, or an event run by a local organisation – the overwhelming sense of community spirit and public engagement across our region is indefatigable and impossible to put a value on.

Such organisations and events could not exist without the efforts, time and skills of local volunteers. Whether it is in the role of civic dignitary or local councillor, assisting vulnerable residents, championing local good causes, or creating a better environment in which we live; volunteers are the unsung heroes in our communities- often in ways that go unnoticed.

So as this year draws to a close, I would like to especially thank volunteers everywhere for your passion, commitment and support. You are the beating heart of every community, every year.

I would like to wish all readers a very Merry Christmas and all good wishes for 2025.
