WALKWOOD Middle School pupils secured a dream win at Wembley after beating St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School 2-0 in the Utilita Kids Cup final.
The Redditch school, representing West Bromwich Albion, lifted the trophy thanks to goals from Jacob Cox and George Clinton.
After a goalless first half, Cox opened the scoring with a header before Clinton sealed the win with a close-range effort late on.
The match took place before the Championship play-off final between Southampton and Leeds United with more than 20,000 fans in the stadium at the time of Walkwood’s victory.
Walkwood were provided with overnight accommodation, complementary tickets, a guided stadium tour, access to the changing rooms pre-match and had their names and photographs in the matchday programme.
Walkwood goalscorer Clinton said: “It was absolutely brilliant to play at Wembley, it was such a great experience. I was a bit nervous coming in, but once I was out there it was just another game.
“It was good to score one, even if it was a tap-in. I’ll never forget it.”
Walkwood goalkeeper, Charlie Howes, added: “It felt so good to play on Wembley, I just kept telling myself what a great opportunity it was. I might never get this moment again, so I’m just really happy to win.
“When we walked into Wembley, you just got a sense of how big it is and how much of an honour it was to play here.”
