THE PUBLIC are being warned about rogue traders operating in north Worcestershire after an incident in Redditch where bogus tradesmen attended a property and removed tiles from the roof before telling the resident work needed doing.
They conned their way into the property and said, as there were tiles missing, the home was likely to fall victim to damp.
Using a mobile phone, they then pretended to take a reading.
The men then asked for £900 to repair the damage.
Luckily on this occasion, the homeowner phoned his partner and the ‘traders’ were scared off.
A Redditch Police spokesperson said: “We are concerned that some people may feel intimidated by these cold calling ‘traders’.
“We would advise people not to deal with anyone who visits their premises uninvited.”
They added people should not feel bullied, threatened or pressurised into buying items or having any work carried out.
“If you’re not sure – do not open the door.”
Anyone approached should call police on 101 or 999 if they feel threatened.
