Warning to owners after pet is savaged by dog on the loose

HEARTBROKEN Studley man Michael Cotton is pleading for people to be aware of an alsatian on the loose after watching his own pet dog savaged to death.

The attack happened last Saturday at around 7.45pm as he was walking along Archer Close in the village.

Michael’s pet dog and little lockdown buddy Mia was on her lead when the attack happened.

“She was right next to me when this dog came out from the right hand side and launched straight into her,” he said.

“It just picked her up and shook her – it was terrible – I kicked it but it just kept on.”

Badly mauled and with her stomach ripped, a passing paramedic did his best to keep Mia alive, only to discover the nearest vet open for emergency admissions was miles away in Oldbury. However there was nothing they could do for her.

“I’d had her for eight years,” said Michael, of Crooks Lane. “I suffer from epilepsy and she has been my little lockdown friend. She would know I was going to be ill before I did – she meant everything to me.”

He added: “I’ve seen on social media that this alsatian has attacked other dogs.

“My main concern is that this does not happen to anyone else’s pet or a child – it doesn’t bear thinking about.”

He’s also been touched by the response of Studley residents to his loss.

“They’ve started a crowdfunding page and gone out of their way to help me,” he said. “It’s the Studley I remember from when I was a lad, so many people seem to care.

“It means I can bring her ashes back home and put them with me when I die.”

The police have been informed and a crime number issued – 377/31 July and they are appealing for witnesses and more information on the alsatian.
