Unicorn Hill in Redditch re-opens as Severn Trent work to repair hole

THE foot of Unicorn Hill is open again following a burst water main just before the bus station.

Traffic flow is currently being controlled by lights as Severn Trent works to fill in the hole caused by the burst and digger excavation that followed.

The incident was reported at 8.20am on Monday morning, November 20, when water was seen gushing up from two places in the road just before the bus station and opposite Shahi Palace and Champagne Express.

For a time properties and businesses in the area had their water turned off while the work was carried out, however for many disruption was kept to a minimum.

Abdul Ullah of Champagne Express said: “We were quite fortunate as we’re closed on Mondays so it didn’t really affect us.”

Workmen opened a huge hole in the road to do the repair which is now in place, with traffic being diverted to use Plymouth Road and Hewell Road instead.

The hole is now partially filled in with traffic lights controllign the flow of vehicles up and down the hill.

A spokesperson from Severn Trent said: “We’re happy to say that the pipe on Unicorn Hill has been repaired and that everyone is back on supply. Our priority now will be to repair the road and get everything back to normal.”
