WATERLOO Road star Liam Scholes burst into song to officially launch the new sound system at Woodrow First School – and wowed pupils, parents and staff in the process.
The actor and musician, who plays Noel McManus in the hit BBC series, had been invited to perform at the Longdon Close school’s fabulous new performance arts centre.
And he immediately proved a massive hit sending the children literally jumping for joy.
Not only that but he’s promised to come back and play again – once he’s had a sell-out gig at Wembley Stadium.
“I want to play on the biggest stage there is, I want to play Wembley – and also right back here, because this school has a mega stage right here too. It’s a mega facility.”
As bad boy Noel on Waterloo Road, music plays a huge part in his TV role, and he revealed it was the same in real life.
“It’s my passion, my dream,” said the Mancunian. “I’ll just sit down and write a song on the guitar, it’s something I’m well happy about. It’s like therapy for me.
“The song we sung, Fortune Teller, had all the children jumping up and down and it was bringing a load of joy to them.
“It’s the only thing I want to do, bring happiness.
“And with the guys I’ve got around me and Waterloo Road still going on, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t smash it.”
Liam, who started in theatre aged 11, has appeared in shows as diverse as Coronation Street and Peaky Blinders before four years ago landing the role of Noel in Waterloo Road.
He was joined on the stage by top guitarist Andy Bennett of Ocean Colour Scene fame, as well as the school’s very own Miss Sophie Davies who sang the Amy Winehouse version of ‘Valerie’.
Woodrow First School headteacher Richard Kieran said: “It’s wonderful that Woodrow children, staff and the local community get the opportunity to share the music of this rising star.
“The children absolutely loved it and we wish Liam every success for the future.”
