We will remember them: Stunning poppy display unveiled at St Stephen's

THERE’S a fantastic display of hand sewn poppies on display in the ancient entrance to St Stephen’s Church.

The display, featuring thousands of the flowers, is the work of different groups across the entire Redditch community.

It was installed this week in readiness for Armistice Day on November 11 and Remembrance Sunday on November 13.

St Stephen’s Church warden Elaine Whitfield said: “People have been working on this all year with some starting back in January.

“The poppies have been hand-knitted and sewn by various members of the Redditch community so it’s been a real combined effort by everyone.”

The poppy was one of the few flowers that flourished in the killing fields of the Western Front during the First World War.

It has since gone on to become a symbol of loss and remembrance for all those who died and were injured in the world wars and subsequent conflicts.
