Weight Watchers women challenge Redditch men to keep fit

A GROUP of women from Redditch Weight Watchers are challenging more men in the area to take an interest in their physical health.

A tiny amount of men – six to be exact – are currently signed up to one of the five slimming groups in Redditch.

In comparison there is about 40 women in each group who use the service.

Debbie Onions, who runs a number of groups in Redditch, said: “It’s not just about weight loss but also looking after your mental and physical well-being.

“Most working men have to cope with a very stressful and demanding office environment where there is very little physical activity.

“This can lead to them gaining pounds and having health problems later in life.”

Women from the five different groups added up their total weight loss over the past six months and it equalled 9,826lb, or 701 stone.

That is similar to a male hippopotamus which can weigh in at around 9,920 lbs.

Debbie added: “If us ladies can lose the weight of a hippo in six months then we are sure that the male population of Redditch can do it too.

“We just want them to get more involved.”
