A NEW path to the Peace Memorial on Bomford Hill in Church Hill has been officially opened.
Called ‘Wendy’s Way’ in memory of Church Hill Big Local Partnership’s former chair Wendy Johnson who died last year, the path replaces an old one that had fallen into a state if disrepair.
Chris Thomas, Big Local’s community co-ordinator said the name also had a double meaning, special to all those who worked with Wendy.
“It was a tongue in cheek tribute to Wendy’s leadership of the Partnership with everyone following Wendy’s way,” he said.
The path that starts at the bottom of the hill by Paxford Close now makes the top of the hill and the Peace Memorial much more accessible throughout the year, including for those who may have mobility issues and there are also benches installed along the path.
“The project has been in partnership with Redditch Borough Council, who first drew plans up for us back in 2017,” said Chris.
“Special thanks must go to Redditch Borough Council officer Jackie Boreham and Councillors Matt Dormer and Mike Rouse for their input in getting the work completed this year.
“We are also grateful for the Council agreeing to adopt the path and maintain it.”
The ribbon on the path was officially cut by Coun Rouse (Con, Church Hill) on Saturday.
He said: “I’d like to pay tribute to Church Hill Big Local for all their efforts on this project, especially Wendy who passed away before its completion.
“I think it’s a very fitting tribute that the pathway has been named in her honour.
“It means that there is now a proper path to the peace memorial at the top of Bomford Hill.”
