WEST Mercia Police, the force which patrols the streets of Redditch, is celebrating its 50th birthday.
In October 1967, West Mercia Constabulary, as it was originally titled, was formed through the amalgamation of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Worcester City police forces during the last major national restructuring of the police service.
Celebrating its 50th year will see a range of special events, initiatives and projects taking place across all policing areas and highlighting some of the force’s achievements whilst focusing on the priorities of today, and of the future.
West Mercia Police will use all of the ‘Celebrating 50 Years’ events as opportunities to further protect people from harm by raising money for the Police Community Fund.
Opening the public celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of West Mercia Police is a special musical event held at Hindlip Hall on May 13, 2017.
The British Police Symphony Orchestra and West Mercia Police Band will be performing together with the money raised also going to the Police Community Fund, providing much needed support for vulnerable victims of crime. Tickets are limited and can be ordered direct via [email protected] (tel. 01905 332239).
Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said said: “The last 50 years has seen a great many changes to West Mercia Police; the way we work, the tools we use and the people who use them. Our communities have also changed, but our guiding principles have not; to protect the public and keep people safe has always been at the heart of West Mercia Police. We hope you will join us this year in marking this milestone in the force’s history.”
