Wetherspoon bans dogs from all of its pubs

Redditch Editorial 11th Sep, 2018   0

JD Wetherspoon’s dog ban came into force yesterday, meaning customers are no longer able to bring their furry friends into any of the company’s 900-plus pubs.

The ban was first announced by Wetherspoon bosses at the beginning of August after they labelled dogs as too “unpredictable.”

Wetherspoon Spokesman, Eddie Gershon, said: “Well-behaved dogs can still be hard to read, even if the dog owner thinks that their dog is perfect.

“We welcome a lot of children and families to our pubs and younger children in particular can be unpredictable around dogs and many are scared of them too.”

Wetherspoon has technically had a ‘no dogs’ policy in its pubs since 1979 but in recent years it appears to have lost sight of that, allowing the four-legged animals to walk around freely.

But now the policy will be “strictly enforced” nationwide, with dogs not even allowed in the garden area.

Wetherspoon is the UK’s biggest pub chain and is beloved by many across the UK.

The rule will come as a shock to many pet owners.

Anthony Sherriff on Twitter, said: “At a time when pubs are closing down hand over fist I’m surprised they feel they can afford to lose custom in this manner.”
