Whole lotta music as Redditch readies for John Bonham Festival

REDDITCH pays tribute to a true rock legend this Saturday, September 25  with the staging of John Bonham A Celebration II across the town centre.

On stage at three different venues will be a mouthwatering selection of bands and entertainment playing a selection of music from across the genre.

Headlining the show finale at the evening show at the Palace Theatre are John Coghlan’s Quo plus Clearwater Creedence Revival with You Dirty Blue kicking the evening off.

But that’s not all – there’s an afternoon gig at the Palace too with a host of top bands, while outside and ‘underneath the arches’ at the former Redditch covered market, rebranded the Arena Redditch Festival Stage, there are some great acts lined up.

These include Vincent Flatts Final Drive and the winners of the 2020 Emerging Blues Artist James Oliver and his band.

They’ll also be joined by a line-up of great musicians with it all kicking off at midday until 7pm.

Meanwhile across Church Green at the free Fringe Festival there will be music and entertainment from 10.30am to 6pm featuring some top local artists.

Getting proceedings underway will be borough Mayor Councillor Gareth Prosser who will officially launch the festival just after a floral tribute has been laid at the memorial to John Bonham.

The legendary drummer of the rock band Led Zeppelin, Bonham was born on Birchfield Road and grew to blaze a trail across the music world.

He died 41 years ago but is still today recognised as the best rock drummer ever, renowned for his hard hitting style.

Festival director Ros Sidaway, owner of Vintage Trax off Church Green East, said: “Our aim is to celebrate John’s life in true rock and roll style and for everyone to have a great time.”

Tickets are selling fast but some are still available for the two concerts at the Palace (£31 and £41) and for the Arena Redditch Festival Stage (£12 in advance, £15 on the day).

Those attending are asked to bring proof of their double Covid vaccination or show a negative Covid test.
