Widow praises Alexandra Hospital staff for her husband's 'excellent and attentive care'

A LOVING widow has thanked staff at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital for the ‘excellent and attentive’ care given to her husband in the final days of his life.

Margaret Andrews’ husband, Barry Andrews, was admitted to hospital last Friday and was cared for by staff and doctors on ward six of the Alexandra until his passing last Sunday.

After contracting Covid in March this year, Barry later suffered with bronchopneumonia and his condition deteriorated leading to his hospital admission. He later died of a heart attack.

Barry, 87, a sonar operator in the Royal Navy and Margaret, 81, an assistant in a chemists, were married in 1963 during the coldest winter in 200 years and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

Margaret believes her, Barry and their son, Wayne could not have received more excellent care, even if they had paid for it.

Margaret said: “The hospital needs to be thanked for the care, love and attention both me and my son felt whilst in the hospital with my husband.

“The doctors and nurses went above and beyond to care for all of us.

“One of the doctors even apologised for not being able to do more for my husband, they were just so lovely and we are most grateful and sincere.

“They did their very, very best and deserve to be acknowledged.”

Margaret lives in Headless Cross, where her and Barry shared their lives together.
