Wilko confirms its Redditch store is staying open

Redditch Editorial 8th Mar, 2022 Updated: 9th Mar, 2022   0

WILKO has confirmed its store is staying in Redditch after it renegotiated its lease with the Kingfisher Centre.

In January the store was included in a list of 15 locations earmarked for closure and the company said one of the reasons was the terms of its lease.

At the time a Kingfisher Centre spokesperson said it had received no communication from Wilko and was unable to comment.

Now the home and garden retailer said new proposed terms meant the store could remain open to serve the needs of hardworking local families.

This updated lease also means that Wilko Redditch’s team members can continue to work locally, rather than be offered new roles elsewhere.

Jerome Saint-Marc, Wilko CEO, said: “Our history is steeped in serving our customers and communities and we’re pleased that our negotiations mean we’re able to continue doing so in Redditch.

“As a business, we’re working hard to ensure our stores and their associated leases best represent the changing ways in which people shop with us, helping to support our future and that of 16,000 team members nationwide.”

Ken Williams, Kingfisher Centre general manager, said: “We aware of Wilko’s announcement and are pleased they are committed to keeping their store open for our community.”
