Winner of Redditch's 'Young Drummer Competition' set to be announced

SIX youngsters have reached the final of Palace Drum Clinic’s first-ever ‘Young Drummer Competition’.

Drumming enthusiasts are invited to attend the final this Saturday, September 21 at Redditch Town Hall where a rising star will finally be crowned.

Hopefuls from across Worcestershire, aged between 11 and 21, have been battling it out all summer at the clinic’s sessions held at Redditch Palace Theatre.

The town is well-known for being the birthplace of drumming superstar John Bonham but none of the finalists this year are from Redditch.

Matt Green, founder of the Palace Drum Clinic, said: “Thank you to everyone who auditioned for our competition.

“It was a really tough decision as there was so much talent to choose from.

“I know guests are in for a treat from our final six and all profits from the event will be going to charity Teenage Cancer Trust, so please do come and support these talented people.”

The final will be judged by pro drummer and good friend of John Bonham, Garry Allcock.

He will be joined by Ros Sidaway on behalf of the John Bonham A Celebration II festival, where the chosen winner will perform next year.

Tickets can be bought on the door and cost £5.

The competition is being supported by John Bonham A Celebration II, Redditch Borough Council, UK National Drum Fair and Rubicon Leisure.
