THOSE looking to take up a new sport can kick off the new year with walking football sessions at Abbey Stadium sports hall.
The new hour-long indoor sessions will run every Monday from 10.30am starting on January 9.
The sessions will be available for people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels, with reduced physical contact and tackling involved and no running, jogging or heading.
Playing Walking football reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke, and previous sessions have seen people making new friends through the games and reducing loneliness.
Other sessions include women’s walking football from 9.15am on Mondays at Abbey Stadium and an evening session at 8pm on Mondays at the Arrow Vale 3G pitch.
Redditch Borough Council leader Coun Matt Dormer said: “The New Year is always a time when we think about improving our health after too much indulging over the festive period.
“What better way to get active and improve your mental health than by playing a game you love and meeting like-minded people?”
Sessions cost £2 each, with people able to turn up at the session to register.
