After being released from her vehicle by the emergency services, she was treated for her injuries, before being fully immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board.

She was then taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeseprerson confirmed two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a paramedic in a rapid response car and the Warwickshire and Northants Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

Because of the severity of the injuries, the QE was alerted to the patient’s condition as the ambulance was en route to the hospital.

A doctor from the air ambulance also travelled with the patient.
