THE inaugural meeting of the Redditch & Bromsgrove Women Entrepreneurs Club has proved a resounding success.
The brainchild of Sobea Irfan, the founder of Bank Solicitors which has branches in both towns, it grew into reality with the encouragement of Redditch MP Rachel Maclean.
Last week it held its first meeting at Redditch town hall with 30 businesswomen from across the area attending.
“It went beyond all my expectations, I was so chuffed – there’s been a real buzz around the feedback too and everyone has been so positive,” said Sobea.
The aim of the group is to empower women in a world too often dominated by men.
“I’ve always thought there should be something like this in this area – we are neither Birmingham nor Worcester and the vision is to keep business generated around Redditch and Bromsgrove local,” said Sobea, who won the Women of Achievement in Business at the 2018 awards celebrating (some) women getting the vote.
“We have two really great towns here and as women in business we need to celebrate our achievements and and support each other too.”
Guest speakers included Redditch Borough Councillor Ann Isherwood, successful businesswoman Amanda Egan and Amy Fleming, fundraiser for Primrose Hospice.
“It’s tough being a woman in business, with the day job, family and kids so it was great to get everyone together,” said Sobea.
“It was Rachel Maclean MP who planted this seed in my mind and I’m just one of those crazy people who take up and idea and do it.”
A second meeting will be held towards the end of September. For more information on the club call Sobea on 01527 892949 or 01527 314949 or visit www.banksol.co.uk
