REDDITCH History Society will continue its season of local and national history talks with a presentation on ‘women in the 19th century’ from 2pm to 4pm on Monday, July 14, at the Oasis Christian Centre.
The presentation this month is by Henrietta Lockhart, curator of museum collections at Winterbourne House and Gardens in Edgbaston, who is making a welcome return visit as a speaker.
Henrietta will tell the group about Ten Birmingham Women, one of whom will be Margaret Nettlefold, the owner of Winterbourne and designer of its garden, as well as some of her female contemporaries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This was a time of massive social upheaval, and the talk will include how the varied lives of the wider circle of Margaret’s friends and acquaintances reflected the ongoing societal changes for women.
The Redditch History Society meets from 2pm until 4pm on the second Monday afternoon of each month.
Non-members are always welcome, for a £4 entrance fee, and refreshments are available after the talk for just 50p per person.
Further details of the 2025 season can be found online at redditchhistory society.org.uk or on a leaflet, available at Redditch Library and The Palace Theatre.
There will be no meeting in the month of August which is designated as the group’s ‘summer break’.
The next meeting will be on Monday September 8, when Anthony Green will give a presentation on ‘Redditch 1939 to 1945: How our town supported the War Effort’.
