THE HISTORY and wonders of a Redditch church will be on show as it welcomes the public through its doors once again.
St Peter’s Church in Church Lane, Ipsley will be allowing visitors to explore the building’s beauty and mysteries during the last two weeks in August.
There has been a church on the site since Anglo Saxon times as a priest was mentioned in the Doomsday book. Many people come to explore family history, especially descendants of Sir John Huband, Knight of Ipsley who died in 1319.
Other features include a brass communion table cross in memory of Henry Dolben, another family closely connected with St Peter’s.
Thomas Bartley, who lost his life aged 18 fighting in the First World War while serving as a private with the Worcestershire Regiment 4th Battalion, is also buried in the churchyard.
The church is open from Tuesday to Thursday August 19 to 23 August from 10am until 4pm. A treasure trail for children will be available.
