THE LATEST talk in Redditch History Society’s annual programme takes place this Monday, February 9, and focuses on the Worcestershire Regiment.
The subject is one which will be close to the hearts of many local residents as they may well have had – or still have – family members serving.
The speaker is retired Lt Col Mark Jackson OBE, chair of the board of trustees of The Mercian Regiment Museum, whose own family members variously served for the regiment in both World Wars and Malaya.
Mark himself followed their example, serving a full career originally dominated by Northern Ireland and the Cold War.
Later in involved the UN, NATO and as a Liaison Officer in the USA after 9/11 in the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
He commanded the 1st Battalion 1993 to 1995, before becoming CEO of St Richard’s Hospice.
He is currently President of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association in Worcester and was High Sheriff of Worcestershire in 2020.
The society meets from 2pm to 4pm on the second Monday of every month.
Non-members are always welcome for a £4 admission fee and refreshments are available after the talk for just 50p per person.
Further details of the 2026 season can be found at: redditchhistorysociety.org.uk or on the leaflet, available at Redditch Library and The Palace Theatre.
