WORK is underway to deliver a new £6million primary school and nursery in Redditch.

The brand new 2,000m, single-storey building will replace the existing Holyoakes Field First School when it is completed in December 2020.

The timber-framed development will accommodate 26 nursery places, reception and classes for years one to four.

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “This location provides a great improvement over the current site.

“This new building will provide an excellent learning environment for the the children attending.”

Construction, maintenance and refurbishment specialist J Tomlinson has been appointed to build the school by Place Partnership, which delivers property services on behalf of a number of local authorities, including Worcestershire County Council.

Alan Moutter, of Place Partnership, said: “We work with schools across the region and it’s always exciting when we see work begin.

“J Tomlinson has extensive experience in the education sector and we are confident that they will deliver a great new school for Redditch.”

The school is being delivered as part of the Brockhill East development, on the northern edge of the town.

County Councillor Robin Lunn (Lab, Redditch North) said: “I am delighted that finally the school will be built and hopefully will be ready by the end of 2020.

“The design of the school is excellent and It’s just such a shame that the developer did not hand the land over much sooner than they did.”
