Wythall councillor overcomes 'tablet mix-up' and violent sickness to complete London Landmarks Half Marathon for baby charity

A WYTHALL councillor has successfully completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon despite being violently sick just hours before after a tablet mix-up.

Coun Adam Kent woke up with a ‘blinding headache’ at 2.30am and reached over to put some soluble tablets in a glass of water.

After they had dissolved, he downed the whole glass but then thought to himself they tasted ‘odd’.

When he checked the packet, he had, in fact, drank two sterilising tablets.

His partner Vikki remained calm and 999 was called.

Coun Kent said: “Thanks to her and a brilliant Australian paramedic, four litres of water, milk and a violent stomach episode for a few hours it seemed I would live.”

Not wanting to let baby charity Tommy’s down he made it to the start line and got around the course.

‘Bitter irony’

Ironically, the tablets he consumed are commonly used for sterilising babies’ bottles and other items.

Coun Kent added: “I still don’t feel great though now – hopefully there’s no long-term damage.

“I didn’t want to let Tommy’s down so had to make the race.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done – I had to stop multiple times to be ill so the time was inconsequential but I managed to finish.”

‘Warning to others’

He admitted it was his own fault but has tagged the company in a post on X in a bid to ‘get some extra sponsorship’.

He has also warned others to make sure they are taking the right medication so they do not make the same mistake.

Tommy’s undertakes research into miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth while providing invaluable pregnancy health information to parents.

The organisation’s work stems from a belief that it is unacceptable that one in four women lose a baby during pregnancy and birth. Tommy’s envisions a future where every parent has the chance for the best possible pregnancy outcomes and the joy of parents taking home happy, healthy babies.
