Young Alistair hopes to help mum cross the line during 50 mile challenge

A YOUNG lad from Redditch will join his mum on her last lap when she takes on a 50 mile challenge around Arrow Valley Lake.

Pitcheroak pupil Alistair, aged 13, will give his mum Sonia Tudor the final boost she needs to reach the finishing line on Monday, August 12.

Sonia is taking on the challenge to celebrate her 50th birthday and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support for all it did for her mum and dad whilst they were both facing a cancer diagnosis.

“Alistair asked me if he could tag along for the final stretch,” said Sonia who aims to complete 50 miles in under 24 hours.

“I’m going to be bawling my eyes out because it will be so emotional seeing him alongside me.

“Most of my immediate family have died before they reached the age of 60, so I’ve got a lot of anxiety about turning 50.

“But knowing Alistair will be there as well as other children and parents from Pitcheroak, who have said they would join us on the last lap too, will be amazing.”

Sonia’s parents received invaluable support from a local Macmillan nurse before they passed away.

As a result of the care both her mum and her dad received, Sonia decided to become a Macmillan volunteer.

From there she went on to become a Macmillan ambassador for Worcestershire.

Alastair, who has autism, said: “I’m hoping my mum has no energy by the time she reaches her final lap so that I can walk with her instead of running.”
