REDDITCH Golf Club in Lower Grinsty have appointed a new course manager, who is the youngest one in their 108 year history.

James Harrison, aged 28 has been at Redditch Golf Club for seven years, but his passion for golf was instilled in him from childhood.

“I’m really proud of myself and what I’ve achieved,” he said.

“My grandad was head greenskeeper of Ladbrook Park Golf Club in Warwickshire, and it’s amazing to think what he would think of me.

‘I’ve followed in his footsteps so it’s a proud moment for me.”

James started as a trainee at the golf club at 21 with no experience, but Redditch Golf Club put him through the training.

“I moved myself up through the ranks and was deputy for a couple of years.

“I worked really hard to get where I am.”

The previous course manager moved on in April and James took the chance and applied for the role.

The club took him on on probation, but recently confirmed he had the role permanently.

“Anything that includes the general maintenance of the golf course itself, aeration maintenance, bunker maintenance, drainage issues that obviously need resolving,” he said.

“Going forward I’ll be coming up with ideas of how to improve the club, both aesthetically and from a

playing point of a view.

“I want to say a big thank you to my team and the committee for taking the plunge with me.

“We’ve got a really strong team now and I’m proud of what we’ve done over the last six months.”
