Youngsters set to gain from Pride awards

YOUNG people with autism are set to benefit from a celebration of the best of the borough.

The Spectrum Club, run by Your Ideas in Matchborough, has been chosen as the organisation to benefit from this year’s Pride of Redditch awards which take place on Friday (December 12) at South Redditch Social Club and are organised by Labour’s Parliamentary spokeswoman Rebecca Blake and sponsored by the Standard.

The group allows youngsters to socialise, develop independence and grow in confidence by creating and planning their own activities and trips.

A spokeswoman said: “Being nominated for the Pride of Redditch is one of the most important things that has happened to our organisation, to know the people we work for value our services so much, makes all of the effort worthwhile. We are especially proud of our volunteers and all of the young people we have worked with. Together they act as powerful ambassadors for our project.

“The money will help deliver additional social nights for our younger members. We know the earlier we start working with young people the more we can help them so the money will be put to good use.

“It’s great the Standard and Rebecca Blake have put so much effort into celebrating the quiet unsung heroes of the town.”

Ms Blake added: “It’s important to me the Pride of Redditch Celebration involves a different youth group each year to encourage the next generation to have a greater sense of pride in where we live.

“This year I’m delighted to support The Spectrum Club. For several years they have been doing a fantastic job and too often their club is the only support the young person and their family can access.

“They are making a tremendous difference to around 50 young people in Redditch.”

To buy a raffle ticket in aid of the Spectrum Club, e-mail [email protected] or call Your Ideas on 01527 502624.

Tickets for the Pride of Redditch ceremony cost £3 and are available on the night or can be booked in advance through the above email address.

Almost 70 people have been nominated for an award which recognises the contribution individuals, business and community groups make to the life of the town.
