Your Letters: The Garden Suite, Covid surge testing and more

Redditch Editorial 23rd May, 2021   0

MAY I urge everyone to sign Rachel Maclean petition with regard to having The Garden Suite returned to its original home, namely The Alexandra Hospital Redditch (www.redditchstandard.co.uk).

This treatment suite for cancer patients was temporarily relocated at Kidderminster hospital.

We all know Worcester Acute Hospital Trust’s idiosyncratic definition of temporarily.

To move such a suite from an easily accessible hospital, in a larger town, to one that does not have such an attribute, in a smaller town is ludicrous.

This comes on the back of the transfer of some children’s services to Worcester Royal, another inaccessible establishment.

If my memory serves me right another temporary measure.

D Vincent, Winyates

THIS letter has been sent to Redditch MP Rachel Maclean.

We are in the test area in Headless Cross.

We have completed the test and the packs have been collected.

We do appreciate the enormous amount of work that has been done to enable this testing to take place.

When all the testing has been completed it would be good to know some results and have them published in the local press as well as online.

Specifically we would like to know-

How many kits were distributed?

What per centage were returned?

How many were tested positive for Covid?

How many positive tests showed either the South African or Indian variants?

Were any positive tests recorded for people who had received either one or both vaccinations?

What age group were people who recorded a positive test?

We believe that we should have a right to know this information I trust that you agree.

G Barlow, Headless Cross.

WE are all desperately looking forward to more freedom but with the Indian variant of Covid-19 spreading in parts of the UK due to Government incompetence on border controls and the South African variant found in Redditch is Johnson’s Government really following data rather than dates?

As ever ultra loyal Redditch MP Rachel MacLean parrots the Government line on May 17 and she is quoted as saying “We all know the rules- face space + fresh air”.

Problem is Rachel you are approving indoor mixing where fresh air may be limited – what could possibly go wrong?

I think another local lockdown may follow in due course with the general public blamed for not being cautious enough – hopefully I will be proved wrong!

I Welch, Redditch

I AM a Redditch resident and have been informed that the proposed new cemetery (Ipsley Meadow site) will continue to be used for recreational purposes after ashes are scattered and bodies are buried there.

Is this the case?

If this is so, are the general public also allowed to use the existing Abbey cemetery in the same way?

I’m rather disturbed at the thought of our loved ones’ remains being trampled on; people sitting on the graves while picnicking; children play ball or flying kites, and dogs defecating on graves!

It seems that, even though we are paying £1,600 for a 75 year lease on a burial plot, we have no say in this matter!

I understand this information was given to my neighbour by one or more local councillors and want to make sure that this is not the case.

Families will not be at all happy to have paid this money if the rules have now changed.

I’m also sure that no-one else will want to pay for burial plots in what amounts to a ’shared-use, cemetery-cum-recreation- park’.

Can you please confirm the rules and regulations regarding cemeteries and if this is about to change?

J Jones, Redditch

NOW that the local elections are complete I’d like to take a minute, to thank the residents of Church Hill Ward who took the time to vote for me on May 6.

Thanks to your support, the vote for Liberal Democrats tripled to around 18 per cent of the ballot.

Although I didn’t win this time round, it is not the end of my efforts to be your local councillor and I will continue to work hard for everyone who lives and works in Church Hill – all year round, just as before.

I also make this heartfelt commitment to you all now: with the support of the Church Hill Focus team and Redditch Liberal Democrats as a whole, I will continue to fight to make Church Hill the best it can be for all those who live and work here.

I’d also like to thank those in Church Hill, Winyates and Matchborough who voted for myself and my colleague Andy Thompson at the county elections.

Your support is really appreciated and we will continue to fight to stop the planned cemetery development on Ipsley Meadow.

THIS is Sun Awareness Week and Cats Protection would like to advise cat owners to be aware of the risks posed to their cat by the sun.

Pale-coloured cats, or those with unpigmented white noses or ears, are particularly at risk from the sun’s rays which can cause sunburn and skin cancer.

Following a few simple tips owners can help protect their cat from the harmful effects of the sun. These include keeping them indoors on sunny days between 10am and 3pm, asking your vet for advice about suitable sunscreen and ensuring you provide plenty of shade to enable your cat to shelter.
