Your words could make a difference in Redditch this Christmas

VOLUNTEERS are sought to help with a festive appeal which has been launched to give lonely people a more enjoyable Christmas.

The ‘Send a Card and Make this Christmas Special’ campaign asks people of all ages to make their own Christmas cards and festive drawings with messages of goodwill for those who have no-one to celebrate the winter season with.

People are also being sought to set up postboxes in locations across the district where the creations can be dropped off.

The cards will then be collected up and distributed to care homes and vulnerable people who may be lonely at this time of year.

The ‘Send a Card and Make this Christmas Special’ project is the brainchild of Marissa Robinson who started the project last year in the hope that a small gesture from a stranger would make a difference to people who had no one to share Christmas with.

The 25-year-old said: “It’s about reaching out to people who may be alone over the festive period and bringing the community together.

“I have a family and this teaches them that Christmas isn’t just about presents and indulgence, but about giving and thinking about others who might not have what many of us take for granted.

“It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to create just a picture or a card, and it means to much to the person who receives it.

“We want to make this Christmas special for those who need a smile put on their face and I would like all children and adults in Redditch to make as many cards to give out as possible.”

Cards should simply be addressed ‘To someone special’ and anyone looking to get involved can contact Marissa at [email protected] or visit www.facebook.com/SpecialChristmasCards to get involved.
