A HOMELESSNESS charity will host a garden party at its accommodation in Redditch.
St Basil’s is inviting neighbours and local businesses to the event aimed at better introducing the charity, breaking down barriers and stigmas associated with homelessness and to explain the work it does in the community.
St Basils supports young people to enable them to find and keep a home, grow their confidence, develop their skills, increase opportunities and prevent homelessness.
One of the key strategic priorities of the charity is the provision of good quality accommodation which meets the needs and raises the aspirations of young people.
The garden renovation project is a great example of how the charity works with external companies to help realise these objectives.
IM Properties, Richborough and BWB Consulting have joined forces with St Basils to complete a first phase of improvement works by the time the garden party event takes place.
There are teams of volunteers ready to go to dig borders, assemble planters and garden equipment to create a space that will seek to inspire the young people coming through the charity – helping them to socialise, form new friendship and trust bonds, take responsibility for the upkeep for the area and for growing some of their own fruit and vegetables.
Barrie Hodge, head of fund-raising and communications for St Basils, said: “Our projects are places that allow young people who have experienced difficulties in their lives to grow and thrive.
“They are their homes and, as such, we want them to be as homely as possible.
“The garden area of the Redditch project has been in need of some TLC for a while now and to have this backing from our partners is wonderful.
