YVETTE Morrison was elected the new mayor of Alcester at the annual town council meeting on Tuesday (May 9)
Coun Morrison has taken over from Chris Brannigan as the new mayor of Alcester for 2017/18 and Councillor Andrew Foster has taken on the role of deputy mayor alongside her.
Coun Morrison, who has lived in Alcester for more than 20 years, said: “Alcester is a testament to the dedication of past and present councillors alike and I am proud to be asked to be the mayor of this unique town.
“It was the town’s sense of community spirit, its warmth, its independence, its support of each other and its huge network of volunteers that makes Alcester such a special place to live.
“As always there’s lots happening in the town but I am confident that with the support of my fellow councillors we will be able to face these challenges together and obtain the best possible outcome for our residents and town.
“We must work with our residents and businesses to safeguard the future of our town.”
Birmingham-born Coun Morrison has served as a town councillor for six years, and added: “I believe that Andrew and I can work well together for the benefit of Alcester. In my time working with Andrew I have found him to be a committed, hardworking and forwarding thinking councillor.”
