WALLOP Boxing Club fighter Baylie Clarke won the club’s first-ever open class title with victory in the Ringside Box Cup.
Redditch fighter Clarke triumphed in the under-52kg category after his opponent pulled out of the final despite a receiving a bye in the previous round in Bognor Regis.
Clarke claimed a dominant 4-1 unanimous decision win against the most experienced fighter left in the category in his semi-final.
Wallop coach Brandon Burford guided Clarke through the tournament with the young fighter to now compete in the National Development Championships in September.
Burford said: “I’m really pleased for Baylie after he took the tournament on late notice.
“He didn’t let the occasion affect his performance and he approached the situation with the perfect attitude.
“He listened to the instructions from his corner and came out the deserved winner.”
Dickens added: “I’m really pleased for Baylie and hopefully it’s the first of many for the club.
“We’re building a strong stable of amateur fighters who will no doubt win many titles in the future with some turning professional next season.
“A huge thank you to Brandon as well for his dedication in taking kids up and down the country to fights in his own time.”
Elsewhere, a trio of Redditch fighters will fight in the Riviera Box Cup at Torbay Leisure Centre in Torquay on the weekend of August 8 and 9.
Dickens said: “We have three of our fighters in the prestigious Riviera Box Cup in Torquay next month.
“Fingers crossed they can bring the titles back to Redditch again to end the season on a high.
“Boxers from all over the country, Europe and America will compete so it’s an international competition.
“The final will be shown on the Sky Sports YouTube channel with the lads to potentially fight in front of a big audience.”
