WALLOP Boxing Club fighter Sami Khan became Midlands Box Cup champion following a flawless display in the final.

Sami, son of Redditch Borough councillor Sid Khan, claimed a unanimous decision victory in the final against Harvey Booth of Poseidon ABC.

Fellow Wallop fighter, Joe Langston, suffered a points defeat in his final despite a valiant effort against Far Cotton’s undefeated boxer Kallum Fosu-Adu.

Sami Khan said: “I just want to thank my coaches for helping me get here and really enjoy being at Wallop Boxing Club.

“Their efforts and my hard work has got me here.

“I would like to see more local kids getting involved in our club.”

Khan boxed to perfection to become Wallop’s first champion as he fought on the front foot throughout his bout and listened well to advice from his corner.

Sami’s dad, Sid, said: “So proud of my son for winning his first title. Midlands Box Cup champions after only boxing nine months at Wallop Boxing Club.

“A special thanks to all the coaches, their efforts and sacrifices are essential and deserve praise.

“Wallop ABC is a new, up and coming, grassroots community boxing club with great coaches and homegrown talent from Redditch.”

Langston started well but boxed on the back foot and did not throw enough punches to earn a decision but impressed in reaching the final.

Langston said: “In just my first season, I feel like I have gone from strength to strength.”

Wallop’s director and lead coach, Carl Dickens, added: “I’m so proud of these two lads, they are a credit to the gym, they both train so hard and that hard work is starting to pay off.

“To have a Midlands Box Cup champion and finalist in our first season, only being affiliated for six months, just shows how much we are learning and developing.

“I’m so proud of what we are achieving, well done to all boxers involved at what was a great event.”

Both Sami and Langston are fighting on Wallop’s second home show at Arrow Vale Sports Centre this weekend (Saturday, June 29).

Doors open at 6pm with the action to begin at 6.30pm on Saturday, June 29. The venue holds a maximum of 250 spectators with tickets available on the door.

Anyone interested in attending the show should call: 07564570067 or contact the club via their social media platforms.
