FOOTBALL - Redditch United forced into pre-season change due to pitch problems

REDDITCH United have expressed their frustration after a supply chain issue forced the club to alter their pre-season schedule.

The club are currently installing a new 3G pitch with the work originally due to be completed by the start of July.

However, the pitch supplier has informed the club the new 3G surface will not arrive in the country as scheduled.

The delivery of the pitch will now take place at the start of July.

This has forced the club to rearrange their first pre-season friendly against Rugby Town.

The Reds were due to host Rugby at the Valley Stadium on Friday, July 11.

However, the game will now take place on Saturday, July 26 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley.

Redditch’s first pre-season game now sees the Reds head to Racing Club Warwick on Saturday, July 5 with kick-off at 3pm.

A club statement reads: “Work has been underway during the off season for the installation of the new 3G pitch and we have, as of now, been on schedule for the installation of the new carpet this week.

“Unfortunately, over the weekend, we were informed by our supplier that the 3G carpet will not be arriving in the country as scheduled.

“The revised timeline indicates that delivery will now take place at the start of next month.

“This news is incredibly frustrating for everyone at the club.

“The pitch was due to be completed by the start of July, however, this is now when the pitch will begin to be laid.

“The process of laying the new carpet will take around 10 days, and the installers have agreed to work all hours to get it ready as soon as possible for us.

“Whilst we understand that certain delays can occur within global supply chains, we are deeply disappointed by this most recent setback and the disruption it causes to our summer schedule.

“This, unfortunately, means our advertised first home pre-season game will not take place as scheduled.

“The original date of Friday, July 11 against Rugby Town has been rearranged for Saturday, July 26 at 3pm.

“This fixture will remain free entry as originally advertised.

“Please rest assured that we are in close and constant contact with the supplier to ensure there are no further delays.

“We remain fully committed to delivering a high-quality facility that benefits both our members and the wider community.”
