REDDITCH Borough have surged into second place in Midland League Division Three thanks to successive wins over the past week which yielded 17 goals for the Reds.

The Valley Stadium Reserves side crushed bottom side AFC Solihull 13-0 on home soil on Saturday before seeing off another struggling side, Perrywood, 4-2 at the Valley on Tuesday to move within four points of leaders Leamington Hibernian with a game in hand.

Despite their perilous position, AFC Solihull have been in improved form recently but they were put to the sword by the hosts as Jason Cowley scored six goals.

There were braces from fellow strikers Liam Fullerton and Jak Albutt and further goals from Gareth Hodgetts and Brandon Mutibvu (2) piled on the misery for the visitors.

On Tuesday the Reds led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Cowley and Albutt and the second half brought more goals as Fullerton scored his 15th of the season and Albutt bagged a second of the match to take his tally for the season to 22.

At 4-0 down the visitors showed some spirit and reduced their arrears with a penalty before scoring again in the closing moments, but the Reds were never in danger of failing to secure three points.

The Reds Reserves face top six opposition over the coming days as they host Northfield Town on Saturday before travelling to Barton United on Tuesday.
