A STRONG field of 48 local anglers found the Alne around Alcester a very difficult proposition in the Redditch Federation of Anglers 2015 River Alne Championship match on Sunday as a cold night led to very meagre catches.
However, a very close match ensued and only 7oz separated the top four anglers as new champion Rob Sreeves (Wixford AC) took one good chub of about 2lb and five smaller samples on pole-fished maggots from his peg at Great Alne to total 5lb 5oz for a narrow win.
Runner-up Dave Grantham (Kings Norton AC) was close behind with a catch of small chub just two ounces less than the winner and only one more than third placed Mark Sreeves (Wixford AC).
Mark is the father of winner Rob and Sreeves senior came very close to making it a family one-two with his 5lb 2oz catch from a peg close to his son’s on the Needles stretch at Great Alne.
Fourth placed Tom Moulsom (Riverside) was chasing hard with 4lb 14oz, ahead of fifth placed Andy Smith (Throckmorton AC) with 4lb 4oz.
Section prizes went to Pete Lewis (3lb 12oz), Ali Morgan (1lb 15oz), Pete Davis (3lb 6oz), Dave Evason (2lb 9oz) and Joe Santos (2lb).
THE FOURTH annual Jim Hemmings Memorial Contest takes place at Arrow Valley Lake on Saturday, October 24.
