REDDITCH RFC secured a third straight home win with a 23-14 victory against Old Halesonians II.

Richie Beddard crossed twice for the Kingfishers while Jack Mertens also touched down as the home side claimed an impressive win at Bromsgrove Road.

The result means Redditch sit eighth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

Overnight rain threatened to put pay to the fixture as Garry Mills and his crew worked extremely hard to ensure the match went ahead as scheduled with the game dedicated to a friend of the club Hollie Mytton.

The Kingfishers made a strong start, pinning Old Halesonians inside their own half, as penalty kicks from Will Spires and Will Heath edged Redditch into a six-point lead.

And Beddard then scored the game’s opening try to put the home side in command as he barged his way over the line following an adventurous run and kick chase from Aaron Atkinson.

Old Halesonians responded with a converted try as Redditch went into the break with a four-point lead despite Heath appearing to ground the ball over the line late in the first half with the referee unsighted.

The Kingfishers crossed for their second try after the interval as Beddard touched down again from a powerful driving maul.

And the home side increased their lead when Mertens chased his own kick before diving on the loose ball as Old Halesonians crossed for a late consolation try.

Redditch are next in action away at Upton-on-Severn on Saturday, March 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Banwell Park.
