DAN Sweeney will return to Redditch United next season with the striker to enter his third spell with the club.

Sweeney becomes Redditch’s third summer signing after spending the last campaign at rivals Worcester City.

The striker has scored 18 goals in 49 appearances for the Reds and adds further firepower to Mike Fowler’s attack next season.

Fowler said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get Dan in the building.

“He’ll add fantastic attributes to our front line that is already strong – he’ll bring goals, a physical presence, character and personality.

“The idea behind the signing is that it can only have happened one way – it had to be on our terms.

“What we’re offering Dan is something that is far greater than money and that’s support, care and the opportunity to correct some of the opinions surrounding him and question marks that people have had over him.

“It’s down to him to prove that all of those people are wrong.

“He doesn’t have to prove anything to me, he’s a proven goalscorer – no one ever says he can’t score goals or he’s not a good player, he’s one of the best at the level, if not the level above, so we’ll be lucky to have him in our squad.

“It shows character that he wants to come back and prove people wrong after some of the stick he’s had previously.”

The Reds signed right-sided player Jak Hickman and left-back Will Grewal-Pollard earlier in the transfer window.
