REDDITCH United lost 2-0 away at Bedford Town to suffer back-to-back defeats in the league for the first time this season.

Goals in either half from Robert Howard and Leon Lobjoit settled the game at The Eyrie.

The result means Redditch sit ninth in the Southern League Premier Central table, six points behind leaders Stamford with a game in-hand.

United made the worst possible start when Howard turned home a loose ball from inside the box after Dale Eve failed to claim a cross from the right.

The Reds searched for an equaliser as Jordan Cranston saw his effort from distance travel wide of the post.

At the other end, Eve denied Gucci Soulya-Osekanongo from close range following a game of head tennis in the penalty area.

After the break, Jaiden White saw his curling effort easily held by Nathan McDonald in the Bedford goal.

However, Bedford doubled their lead on 54 minutes when Lobjoit finished into an empty net from Ryan Blake’s square pass after a long throw caught out the Reds defence.

Tim Flowers’ side looked for a way back into the game as McDonald pushed Johnny Johnston’s effort to safety.

However, the Reds were unable to break Bedford’s resistance on a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.

Redditch are next in action away at local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday, September 24 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Victoria Ground.
