REDDITCH United saw their three-game winning run on the road come to an end following a 3-1 defeat away at league leaders Kettering Town.

A goal from Marvellous Onabirekhanlen drew the Reds level in the first half after Jonathan Edwards put The Poppies ahead at Latimer Park.

However, Nile Ranger’s controversial penalty put Kettering back in front before Edwards grabbed his second of the game while the home side had Harlain Mbayo sent off late on.

The result means Redditch sit sixth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point outside of the play-off places.

Kettering broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Edwards guided the ball into the net at the back post from close range after Lewis White headed on a corner from the right.

However, Redditch equliased on 33 minutes as Onabirekhanlen cut in from the right and coolly found the back of the net when one-on-one with Dan Jezeph.

The home side were awarded a controversial penalty 10 minutes into the second half with the referee pointing to the spot despite the ball appearing to ricochet against the arm of Kettering striker Edwards.

Despite furious Redditch protests, former Premier League striker Ranger stepped up to beat Callum Smith from the penalty spot and restore Kettering’s lead.

And the home side sealed the points on 62 minutes when Edwards lashed a volley beyond Smith after United failed to clear their lines following a cross from the left.

Kettering finished the game with 10-men after Mbayo received a second yellow card for pulling down a visiting player in the last couple of minutes.

Redditch are next in action against Worcester City in the Worcestershire Senior Cup on Monday, November 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium.
