ALCESTER RFC returned to winning ways with an entertaining 38-34 victory against Barkers Butts.
A last gasp try from Jamie Clarke, his second of the game, earned Alcester their first win in six games at Kings Coughton.
That came after James Lampitt and Will Silk both crossed twice for the home side before Clarke dotted down at the death despite Alcester having a player in the sin-bin.
The result means Alcester sit fifth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.
Alcester scored the game’s first try when Silk dotted down before Lampitt finished off a flowing move with Ed Gough converting both scores.
The home side went into the break with a 14-point lead and stretched their advantage when Limpitt crossed for his second try of the game.
However, Barkers Butts responded with their first try out wide before dotting down again minutes later to close the gap to seven points.
And the visitors levelled the scores following a strong driving maul from the 22-metre line.
Barkers Butts completed a stunning turnaround with their bonus point try to take the lead for the first time in the game.
However, Clarke drew Alcester level after bouncing off several tackles on his way to the line as Gough’s conversion edged the home side into a two-point lead.
And Silk scored his second try of the game after he claimed a high ball just inside his own half and sprinted to the line.
Barkers Butts hit straight back with a catch and drive score before Lewis Wright received a yellow card for a high tackle.
And the visitors then won and kicked a penalty to take a one-point lead with only a couple of minutes left on the clock.
However, Alcester dug deep to send Clarke over for his second try of the game which Gough converted with the final kick.
Alcester are next in action against Worcester on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Westons Fields.
Elsewhere, Alcester’s second XV lost 54-21 away at Daventry 3rds who maintained their perfect league record with a 12th successive victory.
Alcester scored three tries courtesy of Dylan Robson, Ernst Pienaar and Ed Denby with Freddie White kicked all three conversions.
