REDDITCH’S Lloyd Glasspool made history with playing partner Julian Cash as the duo became the first all-British pairing to win the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon in the Open Era.

Glasspool and fellow Brit Cash defeated Australia’s Rinky Hijikata and David Pel from the Netherlands in the final on centre court at SW19.

The British pair, seeded fifth, triumphed 6-2, 7-6 against their unseeded opponents to claim their first major title as playing partners.

And the duo also made history as the first all-British pairing to lift the men’s doubles title in the Open Era.

They are also the first British pairing to reach the men’s doubles final at Wimbledon since Mike Davies and Bobby Wilson in 1960.

And they become the first British pair to lift the trophy since Pat Hughes and Raymond Tuckey in 1936 some 89 years ago.

Glassspool and Cash have now won 14 straight matches on grass as a pairing.

The pair won titles at both Queen’s and Eastbourne prior to entering this year’s men’s doubles competition at Wimbledon.

And the duo continued their recent success at Wimbeldon, dropping just one set en route to lifting the trophy.

The pair knocked out defending men’s doubles champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara in the quarter-finals.

Redditch-born Glasspool first partnered with Cash last year.

The 31-year-old has now won 10 career titles with Wimbledon his first Grand Slam success.
